Introduction
Welcome to Portraiter
, your easy-to-use Windows-based Screen Pivoting System.
The main purpose of Portraiter is to orientate the screen of your notebook or monitor to Portrait mode with the mouse/trackpad input honouring the orientation. Setting the screen to portrait mode is useful for reading ebook, surfing the web etc, particularly using Netbook
that is light on the hand. Portraiter leverages on popular third-party pivoting system like iRotate and Pivot Pro to provide a seamless experience. It works similarly like eeeRotate, iRotate or Tablet PC but with some additional features.
Portraiter in Action
Portraiter in action with Lenovo S10 Netbook (Note that Portraiter is running Pivot Pro in S10 as the firmware of S10 is unable to support portrait mode rotation using iRotate)
Anti-Clockwise Portrait , Portraiter System Tray Application and ClockWise Portrait respectively.
Features
Some of interesting features include:
- Uses your mouse/trackpad input naturally while in Portrait mode. No more stressing trying to decipher input direction.
- Support for popular pivoting system, builtin iRotate (http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/irotate.shtm) and commercial Pivot Pro (http://www.portrait.com/enu/pivot/overview.html).
- Uses Windows Shortcut to pivot screen and customize shortcut keys. No more fixed shortcut keys.
- Comes in two versions to suit individual usage, both can be used standalone or together.

Installation
Content of portraiter.zip
Unzip the directory (eg into c:\myapp\portraiter). Copy the shortcut from shortcut directory into Windows Desktop. Configure the shortcuts copy to reflect the portraiter directory (Target directory) and also set the ShortCut key. Note that the shortcut key only works if the shortcut is located in Windows Desktop and nowhere else (Windows requirement)
That’s it for installation.
Now, double-click the portraiter icon to test portrait mode if it works with iRotate. If there is no change in screen, it means that iRotate may not work with your system. Now alternatively go to Pivot Pro website to download a trial copy and test it if it works by selecting Rotation to 90 or 270.
If it works, the next step is to copy the wpflip.exe from Pivot Pro directory [default installation is C:\Program Files\Portrait Displays\Pivot Software] to Portraiter’s thirdparty directory. If you using 64bits Windows, copy wpflip64.exe and rename it as wpflip.exe (Note that I yet to test it on Windows 64bits)
Now return to the Settings Screen to select Pivot Pro option (Note that if wpflip.exe does not exist in thirdparty directory, the Pivot Pro option is disabled).
That’s it for installation and setup.
The installation guide can also be found in the zip file.

Troubleshooting & Issues
- Sakasa mouse icon (denotes by Yellow arrow) is not removed after it is no longer in use
. To remove it, just hover mouse over the icon and it will disappear.
- If Portraiter fails to run, open up task manager and explicitly kill the portraiter.exe process, or open up cmd console window, go to portraiter directory and run the following command “portraitercmd –kill”
FAQ
How do I know whether iRotate or Pivot Pro support my display ?
Answer:
The best way is to try it although there are ways to check it out. It will be much easier just to try out. Just run Portraiter then set the Pivot mode, if it rotates, congratulation, otherwise install Pivot Pro and manually test it by selecting the 90 and 270 rotation from the Pivot Pro System Tray application (blue monitor icon).
Pivot Pro Menu
Once Pivot Pro works for your system, copy wpflip.exe from Pivot Pro directory into Portraiter’s thirdparty directory. If you are using wpflip64.exe, rename it as wpflip.exe after copying. Portraiter works alongside with iRotate and Pivot Pro for screen pivot.
Note that iRotate and Pivot Pro are mutually exclusive. You can’t both run both at same time. iRotate runs as a normal application whereas Pivot Pro runs as a driver (need to reboot Windows to activate/deactivate it).
